Welcome to The Heartland Daily. These Terms of Use (“Terms”) apply to your use of theheartlanddaily.com (the “Site”), operated by The Heartland Daily (“we,” “us” or “our”). By using the Site, you agree to these Terms. If you don’t agree, please don’t use the Site.

The short version

  • The Site offers free recipes and general kitchen tips. Results vary, and nothing here is professional, nutrition or medical advice.
  • Check every recipe for allergens, and follow current food safety guidance.
  • The photographs are AI-generated illustrations, not photos of real dishes or kitchens.
  • Cook the recipes as often as you like and share links to them. Please don’t republish whole recipes, articles or images.
  • The Site is provided “as is.”

1. General information only

The recipes and tips on the Site are written for home cooks, based on personal experience and publicly available guidance. Ovens, ingredients, altitude and equipment vary, so cooking times, yields and results are never guaranteed. Use your own judgment, and follow the instructions on any product or appliance you use.

We don’t provide nutrition information, and the content is not dietary, nutrition, medical or other professional advice. We try to keep the information accurate and up to date, but we can’t promise that every recipe or article is complete, current or error-free.

2. Food safety and allergies

Many recipes on the Site contain common food allergens, such as wheat, milk, eggs, peanuts and tree nuts. Read every ingredient label, and adapt or skip a recipe if you or your guests have food allergies, intolerances or dietary restrictions.

Food safety times and temperatures on the Site follow the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s guidance at the time of writing, and guidance can change. Check the current recommendations at fsis.usda.gov or foodsafety.gov, use a food thermometer, and refrigerate perishable food within 2 hours. Cooking also involves heat, sharp tools and hot liquids: take care, and supervise children in the kitchen.

Questions and emergencies (United States): for meat, poultry and egg safety questions, call the USDA Meat and Poultry Hotline at 1-888-MPHotline (1-888-674-6854). If you think someone has a severe allergic reaction, trouble breathing or is unconscious, call 911. For a possible poisoning, call Poison Help at 1-800-222-1222.

3. About the images

The photographs on the Site and in our Facebook posts are illustrations created with generative AI for these recipes. They are not photographs of a real kitchen, person or dish, and the food you make may look different. Heather’s portrait is a watercolor illustration. Use the written recipes, not the images, for ingredients, quantities and doneness.

4. Our content

The text, images, logo, design and other content on the Site belong to The Heartland Daily or its licensors and are protected by copyright and other laws. We grant you a limited, personal, non-commercial permission to view the content, print recipes for your own kitchen and cook them as often as you like.

You may share links to the Site and quote short excerpts, as long as you credit The Heartland Daily and link back to the original page. Without our written permission, you may not:

If you send us a question, recipe idea or suggestion, we may use the idea in future recipes or articles without owing you anything. We will not publish your name, email address, photos, family recipes or the full text of your message without your permission. How we handle your information is explained in our Privacy Policy.

7. Advertising and affiliate links

The Site does not currently show ads or contain affiliate links. If we add them, or if a page recommends a product we earn money from, that page will say so clearly. Products bought from other companies are sold under those companies’ own terms, and the seller is responsible for the product, shipping, refunds and any guarantee.

8. Third-party websites

The Site links to websites we don’t control, such as Facebook and the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s food safety sites. We aren’t responsible for their content, products or practices, and your use of them is governed by their own terms and policies.

9. Disclaimer of warranties

TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, THE SITE AND ALL CONTENT ARE PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE,” WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, ACCURACY AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SITE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE OR FREE OF HARMFUL COMPONENTS.

10. Limitation of liability

TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, THE HEARTLAND DAILY WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR ANY LOSS OF INGREDIENTS, PROPERTY, DATA OR PROFITS, ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF, OR INABILITY TO USE, THE SITE OR ITS CONTENT. BECAUSE THE SITE IS FREE, OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM RELATED TO THE SITE IS LIMITED TO US$50.

Some jurisdictions don’t allow certain warranty disclaimers or limitations of liability, so some of the above may not apply to you. Nothing in these Terms limits rights you have under consumer protection laws that cannot be waived.

11. Indemnification

You agree to hold The Heartland Daily harmless from claims, losses and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your misuse of the Site or your violation of these Terms.

12. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Minnesota, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules, except where the law of the country or state where you live requires otherwise. If any part of these Terms is found unenforceable, the rest remains in effect. Our not enforcing a provision is not a waiver of it.

13. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we will change the effective date at the top of this page. If you keep using the Site after a change takes effect, you accept the updated Terms.
